Due to the limitations of the waterway where we row, the Vancouver Rowing Club is not able to put on a regatta on its practice course. We do attend several events put on by other Clubs. They are listed below.

We will not attend every one of these Regattas each year, and the decision to attend any given regatta will depend on the decision made by the Regatta Chair person in conjunction with the coaches and those providing transport to the events.

Sign up sheets will be placed on the notice board in the shell bay approximately 3 to 6 weeks in advance of each event. For the first few events of the Novice year (starting in September) the coaches will assist the Novices in assigning crews. Set crews are responsible for signing themselves up.

Generally, boat loading occurs at 6 pm on the Thursday before a regatta. The exception to this is the US Northwest Masters, where loading occurs on the Wednesday. Unloading upon the return from a regatta is ideally the evening of the regatta.

Payment for regattas is to be made in advance of the regatta itself. The Section has to pay fees ranging up to the thousands of dollars for these regattas and it is expected that participants will pay prior to boat loading. The best form of payment is to go in person to the Club’s administration office where you can pay with cash, credit card or direct debit. Ensure that you get a receipt. After the regatta entry deadline has passed, each rower is responsible for the debts they have incurred. If they have arranged a substitute to row in their place subsequent to that date, the original competitor is still responsible for their payment.

In the event of conflicts in regards to boats and competitors, the members signing up for the race are expected to be able to resolve the conflicts on their own. If this is not possible, members of the Executive or the Rowing Coordinator will resolve the issue according to the boat allocation policy approved by the Section Executive.
