| The Jokers Field Hockey Club was started in 1964 by a group of Vancouver field hockey players who were dedicated to enjoying life, both on and off the field. We wanted, then and now, to play a good brand of competitive hockey but also to emphasize hockey friendship and sociability. We like to think we have largely succeeded at this. In 1974, the Jokers joined the Vancouver Rowing Club to become the well-known and historic sports club's hockey section. The VRC's excellent clubhouse and facilities, centrally located in beautiful Stanley Park, have greatly enhanced our hockey and social events. We have won our share of league and tournament trophies and continue to be a dominant force within the Vancouver Leagues. There have been several players, past and present, who have represented both British Columbia and Canada. Many of our members have contributed time and effort to the various bodies that administer the sport, and have represented the province and/or the country as either umpires, coaches, tournament delegates and officials, and association executive members. The Jokers are no strangers to travel, having been to several tournaments around the world under an assortment of guises, our most famous being Jokers International. We have made our mark in Mexico, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Fiji, and Florida and California in the United States. The Jokers have developed some close relationships with other hockey clubs around the world, such as the Hong Kong Football Club, that have resulted in lifelong friendships, several sore heads, and countless good times. Over 40 seasons and more good times ahead... |
