Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaƫlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, announced on December 27th 61 new appointments to the Order of Canada. Among them is Vancouver R.C. Jokers Captain Peter Buckland.

Peter, originally from England, is one of the founding members of the Jokers. He has been appointed to the prestigious Order for his contributions as a pre-eminent civil engineer, notably in the field of bridge design, construction and rehabilitation.

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. It is Canada's highest honour for lifetime achievement.

Also appointed were Olympic cyclist and speed skater Clara Hughes, wheelchair athlete Joanne MacDonald, pro basketball player Steve Nash, and minor hockey tycoon Walter Gretzky.
